Hi all! We both read A LOT, but we know that sometimes even if you read a lot you can get into a reading slump. Or maybe you aren't that "into" reading but you want to try to pick up a book more often. Well we have created a list of some tips to help you read more! We hope these help find a LOVE for reading or come out of that slump.
1. Find a genre, author, or topic you can't get enough of
~ If you can find a particular topic, author, or genre that you love, it makes reading more a lot easier. For example I (Shannon) love romance books! They always put me in a good mood, and I can fly through them faster than any other genre. I am constantly on the look out for more of this genre because I know they will keep me reading.
2. Always carry a book with you!
~ This one is super easy. I ALWAYS have a book in my purse, even if I don't think I will have time to read it. It goes with me everywhere, the doctors office, the grocery store, work. Where ever I go I always have a book in tow because you never know when you will have to wait a few minutes or have a little extra time to spare.
3. Carve out time in your day to read
~ Sometimes in order to read more, you have to be intentional about it! I tell myself that everyday I am going to sit down and read for at least 15 minutes. Usually this 15 minutes turns into 30 minutes, or an hour, or maybe three, but even if it doesn't that is still 15 minutes of reading each day, and that adds up!
4. Find or make your own personal reading spot
~ Having trouble focusing while reading? Or getting comfortable? Well maybe you haven't found that perfect special reading spot. Go searching through you house to find and claim your personal reading spot, maybe it's your bed, or a comfy chair in the living room, or maybe on a blanket outside. Find what works best for you and then when you want to read, go to your spot and enjoy.
5. Don't be afraid to try new genres
~I have noticed that when I plan to read different genres I end up reading more. Some times mixing it up is just what you need to get out of that reading slump, or prevent one in the first place.
Hopefully some of these tips will help you read more or come out of that slump. Share in the comments your favorite tip or a tip you have for others to help them read more.
