~The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares
Synopsis: When four friends find a pair of jeans that fit all of them despite having different body types they promise to make the best memories wearing them. As the pants are passed among the four girls, Lena, Bridget, Tibby, and Carmen, they learn about themselves while embarking on different adventures over the course of one summer.
Thoughts: This is one of my favorite books! In fact, it's probably my favorite series. This is a feel good book. I definitely favor Bridget and Lena, as I identify with the two of them the most. It's a really fast read, and would be great to read while laying on the beach!
~Driftwood Tides by Gina Holmes
Synopsis: When Holton lost his wife, Adele, in a freak accident, he shut himself off from the world, living a life of seclusion, making driftwood sculptures and drowning his pain in gin. Until 23 year old Libby knocks on his door, asking for a job and claiming to be a friend of his late wife. When he discovers Libby is actually his late wife's illegitimate daughter, given up for adoption without his knowledge, his life is turned upside down as he struggles to accept that the wife he'd given saint status to was not the woman he thought he knew.
Thoughts: I really enjoyed this beach read, because it was more than just a beach romance. I loved how a twenty something female, was able to help a complete stranger who was hurting turn his life around.
~Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland
Synopsis: For Cricket Thompson, the summer before senior year will change everything. A summer spent on Nantucket with her best friend, Jules, and the indomitable Clayton family. A summer when she’ll make the almost unattainable Jay Logan hers. A summer to surpass all dreams. Some of this turns out to be true. Some of it doesn’t.
Thoughts: Nantucket Blue is a really great YA beach read. It's an awesome coming-of-age story with a beach setting!
~Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks
Synopsis: When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard. But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport.
Thoughts: This is the book that convinced my high school self that she wanted to spend a whole summer living at the beach, waitressing tables, and falling in love. While it didn't happen in real life, I got to experience it in the next best way, reading!
~Beach Blondes by Katherine Applegate
Synopsis: Summer Smith is in for the best summer of her life. Between the cold weather and her boyfriendless existence in Minnesota, Summer is ready for sun, sand, and boys in the Florida Keys. And by the end of the first day, she has more than enough to keep her busy: Adam, the senator's son, has looks, power, and all the money in the world. Diver, the mystery man, is mellow, intriguing, and definitely unique. And Seth, the perfect guy...only he has a girlfriend. But with new friends, cute guys, and miles of hot white sand, Summer's in for more trouble than she thinks....
Thoughts: Honestly, it's been a while since I read this book, but it was a good summer read. Even if you can't be at the beach while reading it, it makes you feel like you are spending your summer enjoying the sun, sand, and surf.
~Literally Any Book By Sarah Dessen
Thoughts: At this point our blog should just be a Sarah Dessen fanpage. I love her books that much! Most of her books are set during the summer, and a lot of them take place at the beach. In fact, Shannon read my copy of The Rest of the Story at the beach last summer, and there are small scratches on the book from the sand! While this would bother some people, I wish all of my books had sand in the pages.
We definitely need some more beach reads for this summer, so let us know your favorites in the comments!
