Books we think you should read:
All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda
This book is an amazing thriller with jaw-dropping twists and turns all through out it. The most interesting part about this book is after some basic introduction, the story is told in reverse. As it continues in backward motion you start to find out more and more details, but even then you won't know what happens till the very end. I really enjoyed the characters in this book I felt they each had their own complex background that intertwined well with each other. After ten years Nic reluctantly returns to her home town to care for her elderly father. She is quickly plunged back into a shocking drama that reawakens a decade-old investigation that Nic would rather not relive.
There's Someone Inside your House by Stephanie Perkins
This is a great book to start with if you are new to thrillers! First of all its a young adult novel, which I think makes it easier. Secondly, whenever I talk about this book I think of it as a romance with a side of thriller. With such a heavy emphasis on the romance it makes sliding into the thriller genre really easy! So if you don't know where to start with thrillers, this book is your jumping off point. The main character in the book is Makani, she has just moved from Hawaii and her dark past to Nebraska to live with her grandmother. In her new home she has begun to find her new normal with some new friends, and even a minor crush on Ollie the mysterious boy at school. Just as life is settling down for her a series of murders take place, and the victims are all students at Makani's high school. Who will be next? And who is the murderer?
You Will Be Mine by Natasha Preston
This blog should be the fan page for Natasha Preston at this point. While we love all of her thrillers, we could only pick one for this list. Preston's thrillers are also in the young adult category, and are great places to start with thrillers! Layla and her friends/roommates are getting ready for a night out when the doorbell rings. No one is at the door, but there is a note left behind. The note is for Sonny, one of the roommates. They all think it's a joke or a letter from a secret admirer and laugh it off. After their night out Sonny never comes home. Then another letter is left on their doorstep with only two words. Your Turn. As the friends try to figure out who is after them tensions rise, and fear enwraps them.
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
The thriller has slow building suspense that was really gripping and it has a WTF ending that was so unexpected! Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. One night while out on the town, she meets a man in a bar, sparks fly, and they kiss. When Monday rolls around Louise meets her new boss, David....the man from the bar. He insists the kiss was a terrible mistake but can’t keep his eyes off Louise. Louise also meets Adele, who’s in need of a friend, but also just happens to be David's wife. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband, but looks aren't always what they seem. The closer Louise gets to these two the more puzzling questions she has. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong.
The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker
Ted Dekker novels, including this one are often filled with dark suspense which may not be for everyone. Dekker does weave a fantastic story with a well-written plot and typically at least some tie into Christianity. The story centers around Brad Raines, an FBI agent in pursuit of a deranged serial killer. Early on in the story the reader gets an inside view into the mind of the killer who believes he is on a mission from God. He kills beautiful women thinking that he is delivering them to God as a perfect bride.
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
This is the first book I ever read by Riley Sager, and now I am devoted to read the rest of his work. Jules loses her apartment, boyfriend, and job all in the same day, so you could say she's down on her luck. When a rare opportunity presents itself in the form of an apartment sitting job in the exclusive Bartholomew apartment building, Jules obviously jumps on the opportunity. As she settles into the apartment of her dreams, and becomes friends with fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, life seems good. However Ingrid begins to express fear about the building, and shortly after she vanishes. Now Jules is focussed on finding out what happened to Ingrid, and digging into the dark history of the building itself.
The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
I stumbled upon this book at a thrift shop, and had heard some good things about it. Thank God I picked it up because it is now one of my favorite thrillers! I can't say too much about this book because I don't want to give anything away. Not even the tiniest detail. This book has a lot of mini twist that lead up to the big "oh my goodness what is happening" twist. Our main character is Anna. She is agoraphobic, and can't leave her home. During the day she watches the houses of her neighbors and imagines the lives they are leading. A new family moves in across the street, and Anna accidentally sees something she shouldn't. Nothing is as it seems.
The House Guest by Mark Edwards
I had never read anything by Mark Edwards when I received an ARC of this book. I am now a Mark Edwards convert. I loved this book so much. The turns this book took caught me off guard, and I could not put it down until I figured out what happened. Ruth and Adam are given the opportunity to house sit for friends of theirs in New York City for the summer. This works perfectly for them as it will give Adam the chance to finish writing his book, and Ruth will be performing in a Broadway play. When a woman named Eden turns up at the house saying she is friends of the owners they allow her to stay with them. Adam begins to realize Eden may not be who she says she is, but by then it's too late.
