Books for Elementary Teachers to Incorporate in their Classrooms

You may not know, but Shannon has a degree in early childhood/special education! So we complied a list of books for elementary teachers to incorporate into their classrooms. Whether you add these to your classroom library, or include these books in your lessons, your students won't be disappointed!

Kindergarten:

The Kissing Hand Audrey Penn

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archamabault

The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfisher

Grade 1

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel

Junie B. Jones by Barbara Park

Grade 2

Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osborne

The Lorax by Dr. Suess

Stellaluna by Janell Cannon

Grade 3

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo

Grade 4

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

Grade 5

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Frindle by Andrew Clements

Grade 6

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Holes by Louis Sachar

The books listed above are just a few of my favorites for children in each of these grades. Many of these books could cross grade level depending on the ability of your reader. Another factor is whether you are reading it aloud or the child is reading it on their own. A lot of these books teach valuable lessons for children of all ages and some are just fun! I hope some of these books help foster the love of reading in children of all ages.
