I found this book in one of those little library boxes, the title and cover instantly cause my attention and so I decided to grab it and give it a go. That being said I'm glad I did! I don't usually read books set in this particular time period (the 1800's) but I ended up reading this and Pride and Prejudice simultaeously, which was really interesting because I felt like it really helped me immerse myself into the time of the story. I enjoyed the time period and the setting of this book a lot and will have to look for more like it.
I enjoyed that the author of this book was able to combine real world story of Jack the Ripper and then bring her own fiction element to make the story unique. Most know about Jack the Ripper, so this gives the story a sense of a familiarity. I loved however the characters the author placed in the story. Audrey Wadsworth is a young lady born into a privileged family, but she prefer to stretch social norms and follow her own path, I loved this about her. She is very headstrong, defiant, and has a very science centered mind. I was nice to see a female character with these traits, in a book set in this particular time period. I also really enjoyed Thomas Cresswell, he is witty, sarcastic, and has amazing deduction skills which can make him seem arrogant, but he does have a kinder side tht will make you swoon.
Overall, great book! It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. I do however plan to continue the series!
