With gritty and heartbreaking honesty, Mahogany L. Browne delivers a novel-in-verse about broken promises, fast rumors, and when growing up means growing apart from your best friend.
Sarah's Review:
"If you show up and show the world your real self you don't have to wait for others to claim you."
This is the second book I've reviewed where I completely forgot to take notes as I was too busy tearing through the pages. I was able to write three things:
1. Written in verse
2. For fans of Elizabeth Acevedo
3. The quote I typed at the beginning of this review
This book is a gorgeous coming of age story about finding out who your real friends are, learning how to grow up, and last but not least finding out who you are. I think Browne did an amazing job with this book. The flow of the verses was amazing, and I found myself reading out loud multiple times just so I could hear the words. I read this book in one sitting, and that is no small feat with two little ones running around. As writing reviews has become a pretty important part of my reading life, I so rarely find myself without something to say about a book. However, this is one that has left me speechless. This is an amazing book, and I cannot recommend it enough.
