Sarah and I have decided to do another buddy read this month. My sister (Sarah's cousin) loves Pride and Prejudice and suggested we read it and so we decided to make it our buddy read. This read will start on July 18 and end on July 24. If you want to read along with us here is the schedule:
Day 1: Chapters 1-10
Day 2: Chapters 11-19
Day 3: Chapters 20-28
Day 4: Chapters 29-37
Day 5: Chapters 38-45
Day 6: Chapters 46-52
Day 7: Chapters 53 to the end
This breaks the reading up to be an average of 60 pages a day. If this is too much for you we would still love for you to join us at your own pace!
We will also be updating this post with our thoughts and feelings as we read, so make sure to check back!
UPDATE
Shannon's Thoughts:
Day one:
After completing today’s reading I have to say I am enjoying this book much more than the last classic I read. I’m excited to continue reading this book because I know it contains romance, and I’m a sucker for a good romance. I can already see the budding relationships and cannot wait for more. Getting into this book has taken a lot of focus for me just due to the language of the time. I find I need to be sitting in complete silence so I can fully focus on the words. The other aspect I find confusing is sometimes the characters are referred to my Mr. or Mrs. “so and so” and sometimes they are called by their first names. So keeping track of characters is a bit of a challenge.
Day two:
As I continue reading I am getting better at keeping track of the characters and pinpointing more of the main characters. The story is now seeming to introduce some conflict, which is making the reading more interesting and leaving me wondering how these issues will be resolved.
Day three:
The story line is continuing to progress and I am enjoying the plot lines given to each character. I have taken a liking to Elizabeth, she is witty and seems to stand up for herself more than the other girls in the book. Based on my previous knowledge of this book before reading, I am surprised by the minimal amount of Mr. Darcy so far in the story, hoping to see more of him in days to come.
Day five:
I enjoyed today’s reading! I feel like I’m finally fully immersed in the world of this story. The language doesn’t trip me up nearly as often and I’ve taken a liking to many of the characters. After where the story left off yesterday I was glad to continue on and read more. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.
Day six:
Today’s section of reading felt a little bit, long and drawn out. I feel I understand the significance of including the events that occurred, I just wish they would have progressed a little faster. I am excited to finish this book tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed for a happy ending for Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.
Day seven:
I am happy to say upon finishing this book that I greatly enjoyed it! I was pleased with the ending of the story. I haven’t read many books set in this time period, so it was a nice change of pace from my normal reading. I came to love many of the characters. I will say there were a few I did not love, but that was okay. Overall, greatly enjoyed this book
Reading alongside you both, and wanted to share some of my thoughts from the first couple of days:
Pride and Prejudice has been my favorite book ever since the first time I read it, back when I was still in high school. When my sister and cousin—both of whom have never read it before—told me they were going to do a buddy read of it, I knew I had to join in, thus beginning my fourth adventure into Austen’s incredible novel!
Just opening up to the beginning pages and reading of the interaction between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet in the very first chapter brings me back into this world and these characters I love so much. Just two pages in,…
